Most Memorable Movie Car

1981 DeLorean DMC-12, "Back to the Future"

Drivetrain: 1.21-gigawatt nuclear/electric hybrid with five-speed manual transmission; rear-wheel drive

Notable Features: Gull-wing doors, 16-port twin exhaust boxes, flux capacitor

This was an overwhelming choice for voters, and why not? Doc Brown's smoke-spewing DeLorean achieves time travel at 88 mph thanks to a plutonium-powered nuclear reactor and onboard flux capacitor. By the end of the first movie, it runs solely on trash — and it can fly. That's still futuristic two decades after the movie debuted. Sure, the ignition seems to have some reliability issues, but this car easily won our hearts.

Most Remarkable SUV!

Mazda CX-9

Are you ready to rumble?

The prospect of hauling around seven people can be daunting, but the 2007 Mazda CX-9 crossover SUV has a roomy third row with seats that can hold actual adults. To be honest, the CX-9 is much more pleasant with only five people. But if you want to fill it up, Mazda's third row is more than merely a glorified rumble seat.

Mazda also tells us that the CX-9 has the largest pass-through to the third seat you can find, thanks to the third row's 32.4 inches of legroom, a second row that adjusts fore and aft by 5 inches for easy access, an easy-to-use latch that lets you slide past the second row into the back, and the CX-9's long 113.2-inch wheelbase.

Creature features

We drove the front-wheel-drive CX-9 Sport, which is as basic as you can get in the CX-9 lineup yet comes with a full allotment of standard features, including a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode, antilock brakes, tilt-telescoping steering wheel with wheel-mounted cruise and audio controls, and keyless entry.

Bang zoomThis minivan supplanter's double-overhead-cam, 3.5-liter V6 engine pumps out 263 hp at 6,250 rpm with 249 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm.

This represents enough power to get this package to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds and then clock through the quarter-mile in 16.2 seconds at 87.2 mph. The CX-9 features a Japanese-built transmission that works with a smoothness utterly unlike that of the Ford Edge, changing gears crisply yet without any shift shock. It also kicks down quickly when you put your foot down. With plenty of gears, smooth shift action and fine throttle control, this transmission makes the V6 seem more powerful than it really is.

With the 2007 CX-9, Mazda has hit on a fresh combination of style and third-row seat practicality, with a proportional dose of its trademark zoom-zoom added for good measure.

Most Beautiful Truck

Renault Magnum

The Renault Magnum is the flagship model of Renault Trucks, which is available in semi and rigid configurations. Both configurations can be bought with a 6x2 or 4x2 drivetrain.

Engine

The engine is derived from the 12L inline-6 engine of Ab Volvo Group. Changes include new engine management and an injection system co-developed with Delphi. So that, performance and brand characteristics for each brand is preserved. There is also a Mack derived V8 engine available which is not noticeable from the outside, as regards to the fact the truck itself, looks like any other Magnum. Once it starts up, you can tell its a V8 with the rumble that comes from it, some companies have opted to have the word "MACK" placed on the front rather than the usual "RENAULT" badge.
Transmission

The transmission offered as standard is a ZF servoshift air-assisted 16-speed manual. The Optidrive II 12 speed automated transmission with 4 reverse speeds is offered as an option. This transmission can also be used in manual operation mode.

Cabin

When the Magnum was released way back in 1990, it was, to many drivers, a revolution in cab design (flat floor and lots of space to move about). For many years the Magnum had the biggest cab on the road until 1995 when Daf Trucks came to join the party with the flagship version of the 95 called the super space cab. This urinated on Renault's bonfire at the Commercial Motor Expo in 2000 when Daf managed to fit the cab from a Magnum inside the cab of a 95. Renault responded by making a taller cab version to which caused controversy with many commercial vehicle manufacturers as the cab itself was taller than E.U Regulations. Renault rapidly withdrew the design because of fears that many operators that had pre ordered this design could sue them for misleading them, Renault lost many customers for the magnum although many companies still operate these trucks.

At The Edge Of Perfectness!

I am presending to you the magnificent Chip Foose's 36 Impression.

Not a production car, but if you have ever seen it before? Simply THE most beautiful thing on wheels...

CHIP FOOSE WINS AMERICA’S MOST BEAUTIFUL ROADSTER AWARD AT GRAND NATIONAL ROADSTER SHOW FOR UNPRECEDENTED 7TH TIME

Foose-designed ’36 Ford “Impression” Car Grabs Second Major Hot Rod Award in Less than a Year

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., (January 26, 2006) – Legendary designer and fabricator Chip Foose, founder of Foose Design, captured the coveted “America’s Most Beautiful Roadster” Award at the 57th annual Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, CA on January 22nd. Foose, who also hosts the popular automotive show Overhaulin’ on TLC ,was honored with the celebrated award for an unprecedented seventh time for his incredible interpretation of “Impression” – a 1936 Ford Roadster belonging to Ken Reister of Littleton, Colorado. Less than a year ago, the same Foose-designed vehicle also won the prestigious 2005 Ridler Award at the Detroit AutoRama, marking a rare double honor for a designer in the hot rod hobby.

The “Impression” car next travels to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles where it will be on display in the highly anticipated new exhibit “Chip Foose: From Pen to Pavement” featuring dozens of Foose’s creations and will also explore the intricate design process of this master automotive and industrial innovator. The exhibit opens March 25th and runs through November 12th 2006.

Competing against the finest roadsters in the country, at the world’s oldest running indoor hot rod show, the “Impression” street rod blew away the competition at the Grand National Roadster Show. Intricately sculpted coachwork in a subtle, custom shade combination of silver, charcoal, and cream BASF paint dubbed “Chipeweter” accented many of the car’s 4,000 individually handcrafted pieces which combined in an automotive harmony that left hot rod enthusiasts in awe.

Integrating teardrop headlights with subtle eyebrow distinctions, and custom lenses create the illusion of a Ford V8 logo. The Impression incorporates a stainless steel grille, sweeping steel body and fenders and a sleek aluminum hood, on a Foose Design custom chassis with a 118-inch wheelbase. Its one-off suspension is based on C4 Corvette geometry with Bilstein coil-over shocks and BAER/PBR brake rotors and calipers. Specially designed 18- and 20-inch Foose custom wheels in a 1930-era spoke style and hand-cut BFGoodrich tires complete the look.

Is This The Uglyest Car?

Top Gear crowns Weber supercar "Ugliest Car of 2007"

In February, we told you about autoparts supplier Weber's plans to build a monster supercar. The sketch we showed you was, um, sketchy enough that any details or even a good idea of the car's proportions were hard to discern. Kinda like a pre-natal ultrasound where you can't really tell if it's a baby, much less boy or girl.

Well, Weber is now the proud parent of a, OH MY GOD! What the hell is THAT!? Um, wow. What a cute car. Well, ok, not really. In fact, Top Gear is calling it the Ugliest Car of 2007 Thus Far, and we can think of no good challengers. Well, maybe one or two.

Weber designed and manufactured the entire thing in-house using a lot of carbon fiber, orange paint and perhaps some hallucinogens. They claim the car looks the way it does because of intense aerodynamic analysis and that the shape allows the car to reach 62 MPH in 2.7 seconds with a top speed of 240 MPH, which makes up for at least some of the "unique" design elements.

You know, with a Pontiac badge on top of that trapezoidal grille we'd almost swear it was some freak attempt by Gerald Wiegert to meld an Aztek with a Solstice. For this ugly kid to avoid repetitive recess beatings, it's gonna need to show quick proof of those Veyron-beating numbers. Let's get this thing on the track, Weber, and see what it can do. BBbrrrrmmm.!!!

Classic Will Be Classic!

1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake.

Originally built as the “Cobra to end all Cobras,” CSX 3015 represents the high water mark in the horsepower race of the ’60s. Carroll Shelby built it for no other reason than to see how fast it would go.
The Super Snake featured here is remarkable in many ways. First, it was designed and built under the direction of Shelby himself as his own personal car.
The car still has its original date-coded big block engine, its original Girling BR & CR calipers, and the original differential oil cooler and pumps. Under its massive aluminum hood lies the most radical motor ever assembled at Shelby American—a twin supercharged 427 with two Holley four-barrel carburetors. Attesting to the power of this engine, Road & Track tested CSX 3015 in 1968 and recorded 0–100 mph times in the low seven second range. While a top speed test was not performed, the Road & Track crew estimated 182 mph was possible.
The Super Snake is a powerhouse whose pedigree and originality silence all critics. With its massive power plant, beautiful Guardsman Blue exterior, and impeccable lineage, it is, without a doubt, the “Cobra to end all Cobras.”

This car sold for $5,500,000 at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, January 20, 2007. It represents the highest price ever paid for an American automobile at a public auction.

IF ONE BLOWER WAS GOOD...

The distinguishing feature of the SS lies in its drivetrain. The normally aspirated 427 was boosted by twin Paxton superchargers. At the time, these were being fitted to a limited number of Shelby GT350 Mustangs, and if one blower was a good idea, why not two? Because of the space needed to house the two blowers, an experimental Edelbrock XF8 cross-ram manifold was deployed so the two Holley carburetors could be moved laterally to the sides of the engine.

The transmission was a Ford C-6 automatic, used, primarily, in Lincolns. The rationale to vacate the sturdy Toploader four-speed has been the subject of speculation for years. Don McCain, a long-time SAI employee, whose credits include the building of the Harr Ford 427 Dragon Snake, commented that it was a question of whether any production clutch could handle the torque demands of the engine. “Besides,” he said, “Carroll really wanted to drive something that he didn’t have to shift.” Sometimes the simplest explanations make the most sense.

0–60 mph in under 4...

The car was fast. In 1968 Road & Track achieved 0–60 mph times in the 3.8 second range, with the quarter-mile coming up in 11.86 seconds at 115 mph. Horsepower output was reputed to be about 800, but that number was provided by Shelby, and the editors at R&T had trouble publishing an undocumented number of that magnitude. After several road tests, and not wanting to offend ol’ Shel, the writers deemed the power to be “more than adequate.”

Most Expensive and Fastest car

I am bringing you the most expensive car in the world. At the top is of course the legendary Bugatti Veyron, most expensive, most powerful, and fastest production car in the world.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 : $1,700,000

Secrets of the world's fastest supercar

After all the rumors, the delays, and the speculation, the outrageous 252-mph Bugatti Veyron 16.4 will hit the road later this year. Read below to discover what makes this car so super.

Cockpit

Interior is simple, but luxurious and fully equipped. "Boast gauge" next to tach indicates engine power output. Veyron is intended to be a comfortable two-seater that can be driven long distances; several of the 11 prototypes built so far have completed more than 50,000 miles, each following the same grueling test regimen as that of regular VW models.

Brakes

Unique cross-drilled and turbine vented carbon rotors draw in cooling air. Each caliper has eight titanium pistons. Bugatti claims maximum deceleration of 1.3 g on road tires. Prototypes have been subjected to repeated 1.0 g braking from 194 to 50 mph without fade. With the car's fearsome acceleration from 50 to 194 mph, that test can be performed every 22 seconds.

Engine

Direct-injection 8.0-liter W-16 has 64 valves and four turbos. Power output has been confirmed at 987 horses at 6000 rpm, with 922 pound-feet of torque at just 2200. Engine drives all four wheels (with a fixed 30/70 front/rear torque split) through a seven-speed DSG twin-clutch trans. Bugatti claims 0-to-60 mph in under 3.0 seconds, 0-to-124 mph in 6.0, and 0-to-186 mph in 14.0.

Airbrake

At speeds above 124 mph, the rear wing also acts
as an airbrake, snapping to a 70-degree angle in
0.4 second once brakes are applied, providing up to 0.6 g of deceleration. Bugatti claims the Veyron will brake from 252 mph to a standstill in less than 10 seconds.

Future Hybrid Models

Honda CR-Z Concept Car

Japanese manufacturer Honda will unveil the Compact Renaissance Zero (CR-Z) concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month. This compact and lightweight sports car could pave the way for the return of the CR-X, a compact front wheel drive sports car from the mid 1980's.

The CR-Z concept features a petrol-electric hybrid engine that delivers performance car thrills while also looking after the environment. The exterior profile and rear glass end shows hints of the CR-X plus modern go-fast styling cues such as LED headlights, 19-inch wheels, Brembo brakes and centrally mounted dual exhausts.

The Official Honda Press Release

‘CR-Z’ stands for ‘Compact Renaissance Zero’—an expression intended to capture the idea of a renaissance in the design of compact cars that begins anew from fundamentals. This design research model of a lightweight hybrid sports car features advanced technologies that deliver enjoyable driving for all while reducing the vehicle’s environmental footprint.

Exterior design

Designed to be ‘Futuristic and Dynamic’, the CR-Z combines powerful performance in a compact form with a futuristic image. For its frontal view, an over-sized grill with a high-performance look is offset by openings on each side that lighten the overall feel. In the rear, tube-shaped rear combination lamps ensure better rearward visibility. Design details emphasizing the CR-Z’s advanced image include door mirrors that provide high visibility in a stylish form, LED headlights patterned after luminous bodies to convey a sharp impression, and jauntyfin-shaped sub-lights. Large, 19-inch wheels are ready for dynamic driving performance.

Interior design

The key words for the CR-Z’s interior design are ‘Hi-tech and Sporty’. The goal was to create an all-new sporty interior that fuses the liberating feel of airy spaciousness with an advanced interface that brings out the fun of the drive. Mesh material on a simple framework construction is used throughout the interior to convey a light, sophisticated image without being oppressive. In the cockpit, the meter unit conveys the image of advanced technology ensconced in a piece of glass artwork, offering the functionality of immediate recognition while enhancing the driving experience with a futuristic and exhilarating feeling.
